La Crosse Sub Yard
Note: This is a work in progress. Check back often for updates. Last updated on September 29th, 2024.
The La Crosse Sub Yard is the primary yard for the La Crosse Subdivision. It is located in downtown La Crosse, WI and is loosely based on the Chicago & North Western Yard on the North end of the downtown area. The yard is used for sorting cars, building trains, and storing cars for local industries.
Yard Operations
Yard operations are controlled by the yardmaster and the yard crew, if available. The yardmaster is responsible for the overall operation of the yard, including the building of trains, sorting of cars, and the movement of cars to and from the yard. The yard crew is responsible for the actual movement of cars within the yard, including the switching of cars to and from tracks, the building of trains, and the sorting of cars.
Yard Layout
As with the prototype, this is a stub end yard and the main line becomes an arrival track. A set of switches allows locomotives to move to the Engine house once the switch crew pulls the train back. There will be three classification tracks, a caboose track, and a two stall engine house.
