Chicago & North Western GP-7
Many of the photos I have of the Chicago & North Western in Winona, MN are GP-7 units. So I need to build some. The problem is, American Models only offers a GP-9. Sure, I could just pass off the GP-9 as a GP-7, but I don't have to since S Scale America offers a kit to convert them to a GP-7. Originally I started the conversion for Atlantic Coast Line, but found they will work just fine for the CNW.
Here is a group shot of the CNW GP-7s I am working on. I have two of the three units converted to GP-7 long hoods. The third unit is still in the works. I am using the S Scale America conversion kits on American Models GP-9s. The kits are a bit of a challenge to get right, but they are worth it.
Conversion Process
The process of converting the GP-9 to a GP-7 involves carefully cutting along the walkways to remove the long hood. The GP-7 long hood kit consists of four parts that are easily assembled. It took quite a bit of filing and a little filling with putty to get a good solid fit on the GP-9 frame.

Adding Details
After the long hoods were installed, I added S Scale America Radiator grills and Torpedo Tube Air Tanks and Winterization hatches from Circus City Decals.
Project Paused
Unfortunately shortly after getting these done I ended up packing up the layout and moving. As of 09-29-2024 this project has been put on hold.
